What Would You Do With A Second Chance?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Do you believe in second chances? It could be a game, a\ncareer opportunity, a relationship, or even life itself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether you are on the giving or receiving end of them, they\ncan certainly be exciting, but also come with consequences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I recently had a medical scare that put me on the receiving end<\/em> of a second chance at\nLIFE; which almost led to a second chance at a toxic relationship, but I woke\nup. I almost let my desperation and fear of \u2018dying alone\u2019 suck me back in, but\nthat\u2019s a whole other post. Ha!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those of you who read my other blog posts, know that I lost\nmy identity and the family I had known all my life when my parents passed\nalmost 4 years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, my second chance on life made me analyze where I was in\nlife, how I was honoring God in my life, and how I was living. The fact was: I\nwasn\u2019t living. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I believe after my parents passed away and my divorce was\nfinal, I was \u2018broken\u2019 and moved to Florida to grieve and heal for a while; however,\n\u2018awhile\u2019 turned into fear and isolation for almost four years. When I thought\nabout this after my medical scare, I realized my parents and God wouldn\u2019t want\nme to live like this. They would want me to be happy, and have friends, and\ncelebrate the blessing of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I was preparing for discharge from the hospital, the\nmedical professionals told me it could be months, even years, to get my\nfunctions back. I was struggling to find my words, often stuttering<\/em>, falling over when trying to walk, I had forgotten\nhow to type and write, and so much more. But I was on a mission, and determined\nto beat the odds once again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I recall one nurse telling me that the more I do my normal\nroutine things, the more my brain would recall, and rewire itself\u2026returning my\nbody to normal.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, that\u2019s what I did. I went about my normal routine,\nwaking up, getting ready for the day, cooking, cleaning, playing word games on\nmy ipad, spending an hour or two in my home office practicing the hand and\nwriting exercises they gave me in the hospital\u2026staying with it,  no matter how frustrated I got. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a week, I tried to get on the treadmill at 1mph\nholding on to the rails as tight as I could, but determined to finish 20\nminutes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Slowly, but surely, I starting improving. I was walking, talking,\ntexting, and typing faster and faster. \nAnd, here I am today typing a blog post, able to remember words, and writing\ncreatively again. Although, please excuse any errors you may find. J<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With my second chance on life I vowed to get out and make\nfriends. Since I work from home, this can be difficult. So I went on a meetup\ngroup site I was already a member of and actually clicked the \u2018attend\u2019 button\nfor one of the events. For the first time in years, I enjoyed a night of\nbowling with a wonderful group of women!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dating sites aren\u2019t for me, but I will definitely be more open<\/em> and present<\/em> (lowering the brick wall I usually have up) when out and\nabout, and perhaps attend some meetup Singles Events. Baby steps, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, the end result is that I am thankful for every day and\ntry to get outside every day and \u2018smell the roses\u2019! And, although I go to\nchurch weekly, I also signed up to volunteer with the elderly, sick and\nshut-in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In contemplating your own life, what would you do with a\nsecond chance? What would you do more or less of? What would you change?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
